Encouragement from Hebrews

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Thank you!

Thank you all who have written and responded to the Scripture postings these past couple of weeks!  That is very encouraging to see responses, and to know that others are getting encouragement from Scriptures as I have.

I hope you continue to enjoy the little doses of Bible, and you all have a great day!

Further Along (Hymn)

1 Tempted and tried, we’re oft made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long;
While there are others living about us,
Never molested, though in the wrong.
Refrain:
Farther along we’ll know more about it,
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.
2 Sometimes I wonder why I must suffer,
Go in the rain, the cold, and the snow,
When there are many living in comfort,
Giving no heed to all I can do. [Refrain]
3 Tempted and tried, how often we question
Why we must suffer year after year,
Being accused by those of our loved ones,
E’en though we’ve walked in God’s holy fear. [Refrain]

4 Often when death has taken our loved ones,
Leaving our home so lone and so drear,
Then do we wonder why others prosper,
Living so wicked year after year. [Refrain]
4 “Faithful till death,” saith our loving Master;
Short is our time to labor and wait;
Then will our toiling seem to be nothing,
When we shall pass the heavenly gate. [Refrain]
5 Soon we will see our dear, loving Savior,
Hear the last trumpet sound through the sky;
Then we will meet those gone on before us,
Then we shall know and understand why. [Refrain]

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

I don't know about tomorrow
I just live for day to day
I don't borrow from the sunshine
For it's skies may turn to gray
I don't worry o'er the future
For I know what Jesus said
And today I'll walk beside Him
For He knows what lies ahead
Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand
Ev'ry step is getting brighter
As the golden stairs I climb
Ev'ry burden's getting lighter
Ev'ry cloud is silver lined

To The Harvest Fields! (Reblog)

A Kansas wheat field near Girard, KS during harvest time

Written by Rev. W. C. Poole and Geo. C. Stebbins, 1924

There is work to do, there is work for you
And the call rings clear today
'Tis the Master's call, And it comes to all
To the havest fields away!

Chorus:  Away, away to the harvest field!
The Master calls for you (for you)
Then away, away to the work He gave,
For there is much to do!

There are souls to light, In the paths of right,
There are souls who look to you
Do you lead the way To the perfect day
Do you do what Christ would do?

There are souls  in need, There are souls who plead
There's a call that comes today
For a light to shine With a glow divine
Do you light for them the way?

Helping the Struggling Homemaker (reblog from 2012)

Do you know of a fellow homemaker who is struggling at home?  You most likely do, even if she's hiding her struggles as best as she can.

Seldom do you see a fellow homemaker come out and say "HELP ME!"  Most likely when you do find one that's at that point, that "help me" is accompanying tears, frustration, guilt, stress, you name it.

You've most likely been there at some point in your life.  I sure have, on more than one occasion.

So what can we do to help this struggling homemaker?

First, let's come along side her.  This doesn't necessarily mean barge in and take over cleaning her home and doing the laundry and so on--the home IS her domain and this can easily send her to retreating.  Instead, offer her a cup of tea, coffee, or soda at a local restaurant, or at your own home.  This takes down her stress level a bit, to get away and be around another homemaker like her.

Second, listen to her.  Let her speak about what's brought her to the point of frustration, why she's struggling.  You may find she has some issues you've already handled or are currently dealing with yourself.  You may have insight to help guide her.

Third, point her to Scripture.  Jesus is the only one who can bring peace, so it seems only natural to take her to Him.  If she doesn't know Him yet, this is an excellent time to show her HOW to find peace in Christ.  Show her your favorite verses that you lean on in times of struggle.  Point her to what the Lord shows you.

Pray with her.

It may not seem like a lot of effort on your part, but those few little things can make a world of difference to the struggling homemaker.  Just a few moments to show you care makes a difference.

If you don't believe me...

Try it!

Building Your Foundation

This week in our Ladies' Sunday School class we continued in a series about building a good foundation under us in order to handle what comes at us.  Basically putting a strong biblical and spiritual foundation under us in order to remain strong and spirit filled when the worst hits us.

Christ is supposed to be our foundation.  He's solid.  He doesn't break.  He doesn't change.  He doesn't wash away like sand.  He doesn't shift.  If He isn't our foundation, we're going to flounder, we'll have our world crumble like a house in an earthquake or feel like we're in a whirlwind (think Oklahoma or Kansas in the spring).  Without a solid base, we can't fully operate.

How do we get that base?

We first make sure that we know Jesus as Lord and Savior.  How do you do that?  First, we visit Romans 3: to find out the answer to the question of "who is good"...

Who is Good?"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.  There is none, that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no not one."  (Romans 3:10-12)

Then we move on to:

Who Has Sinned?"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"  (Romans 5:12)
Next we find out the cost of our sin:

What Is The Eternal Cost of Your Sin?"For the wages of sin is death..."  (Romans 6:23)"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men..." (Romans 1:18)
What can you do about the cost of your sin??

You Cannot Save Yourself"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight..." (Romans 3:20)"Where is boasting then?  It is excluded.  By what law?  of works?   Nay: but by the law of faith."  (Romans 3:27)

But.....

God's Love Has Provided The Way!"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."  (Romans 5:8-9)
Now what???

You Must Place Your Complete Faith in Jesus Christ"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering:  not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?"  (Romans 2:4)"Even the righteousness of god which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe."  (Romans 3:22)"Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."  (Romans 3:28)"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Do You Believe That Jesus Christ Alone Can Save You?The Bible states, "And being fully persuaded that, what he (God) had promised, he was able also to perform."  (Romans 4:21)

Here is God's Promise to You:"...if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:"  (Romans 4:24-5:1)
Pray Now And Ask Him To Save You!

"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."  (Romans 10:10)

If we don't have salvation according to Scripture squared away, we won't have a foundation to work with.  A foundation is not an apostle, nor a building, nor a preacher/priest/rabbi/bishop/etc.  It is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

From salvation, we build.  We devour the Bible.  We dive into it head first, learning, reading, soaking in everything we can.  To go farther, we use study helps, like bible encyclopedias, Strongs' Concordances, Bible dictionaries, whatever it takes to learn the meanings of each individual word written in Scripture.  Individual study is key to learning.  If you don't spend time in your bible on your own, your foundation will remain as it was when you first got saved.

You also build by getting under solid bible preaching and teaching.  While not popular, there are bible preaching and teaching churches out there.  Most likely they won't be mega churches--God's Word is not the most popular, but there are lots of smaller churches sprinkled around and still faithfully holding to the Bible every service.  If you dig deeper you may find one that still uses the old hymnals as well--you get doctrine in the songs and the sermon!

As you learn and read, you start applying what you've learned to your every day life.  You start listening to that voice that says "you know you shouldn't do that", or "here help this person", or "that doesn't sound right lined up against the Bible".  You are learning to discern truly right from wrong and also listen to the Holy Spirit as He guides you.  You find that the Lord does provide what you need, when you need it, and you learn to trust in Him to take care of you.

Then the hard times come.

After flexing your faith muscles a little through the better days, you have chance to really gain a few pounds of muscle here.  You may go through every human emotion available.  You may want to give in.  But...you don't.  You stay the course, trusting that God is there with you, standing by you, comforting you when you're needing it most, finding solace in the Bible, other believers who stand with you, and in knowing He never leaves you.

Now...repeat that over and over...the cycle of growing and flexing...

In time your foundation grows very very strong.  You have the layers built up enough to withstand anything the devil may throw at you.  Then, you look back and can tell others how God got you through....and share your foundation's strength with another who may be floundering or even seeking the very beginning layers of a foundation.

This takes time, this doesn't all happen over night.  It takes lots of work building and taking care of that foundation, nurturing it and taking care of any cracks or chips that come with the shaking and winds of life.

Now, have you started your foundation?  Have you built up to be able to withstand storms in life?  If not, I'd be glad to help you get started!

Encouragement from Psalms

1 (A Song of degrees.) I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help [cometh] from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD [is] thy keeper: the LORD [is] thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Psalms 121

When You Say "I Can't"

Most of you who have been reading a while know we have 3 special needs kids, all of whom are teens or very close to it.  It's been a long road raising this tribe and it looks like the road will continue to be long and bumpy for years to come.

Between the 3 we handle mental retardation, mild autism, Asperger's, adhd, bipolar disorder, OCD, anxiety, depression, and I believe there's one more but I can't put a finger on it.  Through the years we've learned hands on many things in handling medications, behaviors, school issues, socialization, legal issues, and so on.  It has definitely been a learning experience to say the least.  Along the way I've made some dear friends whom I wouldn't have known if it weren't for having a child with disabilities.

It's been the strong friends that the Lord has put in our lives through the years who continue to help us when we want to give up.  We get to a point where it's just time to flop on the couch and say "I can't", and they come to the rescue, with a call, a text, a quick "how are you" on facebook, and so on.  One in particular comes to the house when I'm in tears and truly to where I am saying "I can't do this anymore" and want to give up.  I don't know what I'd do without them.

Someone else is there when we so so want to give up and be done.

Jesus.

He said He'd never leave us nor forsake us.  He sent a Comforter to be with us when we need Him the most.  He never said that life would be easy, but that He'd be with us along the way.  There's times when it feels like we're alone drifting in a sea of phone calls and paper work and demands and expectations and behaviors and so on, but He throws a lifeline.

In a few years the oldest two will be in their own living arrangements, whether on their own or in a supported living home, and the constant "on alert" for physical aggression to self/others/property will diminish. The youngest will be out on her own most likely in her own apartment.  We will get to breathe for a minute, let the "alert" feeling go away, and get to breathe.  Until those days arrive, we remain "on duty", watching and waiting for signs of impending physical aggression, waiting for the behaviors we know are to come, for the phone calls from schools about one child or another, for the meltdowns over a simple question asking for them to do something very simple.  Some days it feels more like awaiting a combat order instead of parenting...those with kids like ours understand that feeling.

Jesus knew what He was doing in putting the tribe with us.  I'm sure of that.  I'm also sure that He knew we'd say "I can't" and have to lean on Him all the more.

If you get to the place where you think you can't go on...trust in Him.  You CAN go on...with Him!
