The Definition of Success

We all have our own definition of success.

Financial security...
A large house....
New cars in the garage...
Couture clothing....
High stats on your blog/website....
Invitations to swanky parties in person and online....

Our world pushes "things" as the yard stick to measure success.  While these things are all fine and good, are they what really satisfy?

Don't get me wrong, I'd enjoy a fat bank account, a nice large house with room to grow, new cars under warranty, a well known blog, and so on.  It'd feed the flesh and make life comfortable.  But, they would not satisfy.

So what would be satisfying?

My definition of success:  raising up the 3 children in our home to know the Lord.  The kids remembering me as the mom who was there, who worked hard to tend to them and be there all hours of the day and night.  Knowing my Lord and Savior.

What does the bible say about success?  No, it's not the health and wealth variety as pushed by some of the charismatics.  Instead, it's righteousness, fear of the Lord.

"In the house of the righteous is much treasure:  but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble."  Proverbs 15:6

"By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life."  Proverbs 22:4

"And the Lord thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of they body, and in the fruit of they cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good:  for the Lord will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers."  Deuteronomy 30:9

"Then shall he give the rain of they seed; that thou shalt sow the ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and plenteous:  in the day shalt thy cattle feed in large pastures."  Isaiah 30:23

"Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eath thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift to God."  Ecclesiastes 5:19

"For her price is far above rubies."  Proverbs 31:1

"Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."  Proverbs 31:28

What is your definition of success?

First you must decide which means you choose to measure by:  the world, or God's.  Measuring by the world's standards will leave you empty, unsatisfied, unfulfilled.  Searching.
God's defining measure leaves you full, knowing what you are seeking, how you measure up, and satisfied.

Choose which measure you want to test your life against, and seek then your success.
